Geane deLima

SAGE

“We build too many walls and not enough bridges.” ~Isaac Newton

Traveler | Animal Lover | Mom

Born in Brasil, deLima’s parents moved her and her younger brother to Chicago for a better life. During that time, she attended twelve schools in 10 years making change a part of her desire to always see and experience new places. At 19, Geane moved to California and began working for a cruise line and travelled to Mexico, Europe, and the Caribbean—a fond memory of places not yet developed for tourism in the 1990s.

After the birth of her first child, one of four, she returned to college to obtain her degree in Communications and Business Administration at University of Nevada—Las Vegas. She opened her own boutique marketing firm working with service workers unions.

In 1991 she moved back to California and began working for SAGE Publications where she had the opportunity to collaborate and take part in the development of new educational products and launch new imprints under the SAGE umbrella.

Delima now lives in North Carolina, learning to live with mosquitoes and alligators in her back yard.

In 2011, she helped Sara Miller McCune set up the Miller-McCune Foundation—a 501c corporation committed to combining social science research and journalism to forward solutions to current social, environmental, and educational problems. Miller-McCune magazine, later renamed Pacific Standard, won numerous journalism awards before being transferred to Grist magazine in Seattle, Washington.
